2. Chapter 1: Short Answer #4

#4:
Thesis: In addition to being able to metabolize, grow, digest food, and excrete wastes, another function that an organism needs to survive is to be able to maintain boundaries, have movement, respond to stimuli, and reproduce.

Evidence: You need to maintain boundaries to distinguish insides and outsides. The body also has a membrane to surround the cells and to prevent danger. Movement is needed so that we can be able to maneuver from place to place. Responding to stimuli to react in the environment, nerve cells, nervous system. Lastly, reproduction to produce offspring, which is the duty of our reproductive system to produce sperm and eggs.

So What: I believe these are necessary because everything is there for a reason so that we can survive. Our boundaries help protect and defend our insides and outsides. Movement from our muscular system supported by our skeletal system to have the bones we need to move through walking, swimming, etc. Also movement is within our body, our blood and fluids that travel through our body to keep us alive. Our responsiveness lets us respond and react to our surroundings. And reproduction to produce beings.
